Key Features

Zamiaceae have with a single unbranching stem that may be mostly underground in some species or quite tall.  Leaves are large and pinnately compound and may have circinate vernation like ferns. Reproduction is dioecious, with both microsporophylls and megasporophylls (ovuliferous scales) aggregated into cones.
