Pinaceae
No differences at the family level; some differences at the species level.
Key Features
Mostly trees (some shrubs) with resin canals, needle-like leaves, and female cones with two ovules per scale. Ovuliferous scales are attached to the cone axis in the axil of a bract which may be apparent (as in douglas fir) or obscure and partially fused to the cone scale (as in pines). Within the family, genera are distinguished by needle shape, details of needle attachment, and cone characteristics.

Cedrus atlantica - branch with needle bearing short shoots. I don't have a picture of cones (find some via google) --they behave similar to Abies
Larix - cones of various ages and individual needles in spring time growing from short shoots. bracts below cone scales are apparent.
Pinus parviflora - Japanese white pine. Two cones with some resin at base of some cone scales. Pine cones take two years from pollination to mature their seeds
