Salicaceae tribe Saliceae
Salicaceae has been expanded to now encompass more than just Salix and Populus, yet these two genera are primarily what one will encounter in temperate regions and together form tribe Saliceae. The additional diversity added to Salicaceae shares the salicoid teeth along the leaf margins with Salix and chemistry, but differ in commonly having perianth parts.
Key Features
[Focusing on tribe Saliceae]: Dioecious shrubs or trees with male and female catkins, brittle wood, capsules from superior ovaries, and short lived seeds commonly with a tuft of hairs.
