Key Features

Grass-like perennial herbs with round, solid (pithy) stems, three ranked leaves (blades may be absent), sheathing leaf bases (open sheath), tiny lily-like flowers with 6 chaffy tepals, 3 or 6 stamens, and 3 fused carpels. The ovary is superior and matures into a 3-valved capsule.  Juncaceae are found in and near aquatic habitats. Juncaceae is the rush family.
